Meet The Team
“It was a huge weight off our shoulders when you said you were able to come in with us”
Please see below biographies and contact details for the amazing team and trustees we have managing things at North Lanarkshire Disability Forum.
Lorraine Van Beuge
Hi, my name is Lorraine Van Beuge and I am the Project Manager for North Lanarkshire Disability Forum. I have worked with NLDF since 2008. Within that time my role has changed greatly. I started as an administrator and my role was very reactive. Through working with groups and meeting many people with different disabilities, I felt there was a gap in the services North Lanarkshire was providing, such as support around applying for benefits. There are organisations available, but their support was limited and didn’t offer the chance to talk things through or ask for more than one support at each appointment. I felt that was a flexibility we could offer so I started the Practical Assistance for Everyday Living (PAFEL) project.

Hi everyone, my name is Gemma McDonald, I am a Development Worker (SDS) at North Lanarkshire Disability Forum and I started in my role in February 2022. I am really excited to be working with such a fantastic team and look forward to meeting you all!
I have a passion for empowering and supporting people, ensuring that we challenge any barriers that may prevent a person accessing an activity or service. For the last 15 years I have been lucky enough to be able to do this work in various organisations across the West of Scotland and I am excited to bring my existing skills to this role.

Hello, my name is Laura Finnan Cowan and I am the Self-Directed Support (SDS) Development Worker at North Lanarkshire Disability Forum. I started work at NLDF in July 2020 and have been working on developing ways to support people online. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen more people rely on online and digital as a way to stay in touch and entertained. We host one regular weekly Zoom Chat at the moment. We hope to continue to develop and support new online groups and activities over the next few months. The work I do is very important to me. I believe that everyone should be included if they want to be. I really hope our work helps people learn new skills, feel more confident and feel part of the community.
Hi, my name is Pauline Pew, I am a Development Worker (SDS) at North Lanarkshire Disability Forum. I was thrilled to become part of the team in March 2021, my role is to help develop existing, new groups and activities in order for people to share experiences, learn new skills, have fun and make valuable friendships.
I have a great deal of experience working with families with additional support needs (ASN) within the community. I believe each person is unique and I’m passionate about supporting people to be heard and have choices that allow them to have a happy, fulfilling and independent life. I look forward to meeting you.
Hi, my name is Jen Worrall. I am a trustee and the secretary of North Lanarkshire Disability Forum. I am a disabled person who has no sight and I am on the waiting list for a guide dog. I also had a kidney transplant ten years ago. I bring that knowledge and life experience to the Disability Forum. I got involved with the Disability Forum because I want to help other disabled people in North Lanarkshire. I want to help raise awareness of disability and the challenges that can prevent independent living. Being part of the Disability Forum means I get to learn from other disabled people. I get to know their experiences and they get to learn about mine. I also get new opportunities to be involved in the community.
