Support your wellbeing through self-directed support. Welcome to week 5 of November’s wellbeing posts, this week we are going to be talking about two plants, because why not? The two plants with beautiful flowers for the winter session and my personal favourites the Christmas cacti and Amarilis. We support your self-directed support (SDS) journey so please get in touch if you would like information on how we can support you. Legend says that a Jesuit missionary, Father Jose, was trying to convert Bolivian natives. The natives apricated his help but they did not believe the Christmas story he tried to convey. On Christmas eve as he was praying at his alter, he heard his congregants singing a hymn he had taught them, and the children handed him plant stems decorated with beautiful flowers to decorate his alter. The plant stems he was given were from the Schlumbergia cacti, which is now commonly known as the Christmas cacti. For information on how to take care of your Christmas Cacti please follow the link www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/gardening/a20705680/christmas-cactus-care/ Amaryllis is known for its beautiful blooms that appear over the Christmas period. These stunning flowers are believed to mean pride, strength and determination as they stand tall above all other winter blooms. Amaryllis is also a Greek name which means 'to sparkle', which ties in well with the festive season. For information on how to take care of your Amaryllis please follow the link www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/how-to-grow-amaryllis/ Whether you celebrate Christmas or not these are beautiful houseplants to have in your home over the winter months. ...
